ERVING — The Erving Select Board voted unanimously to advance a $3.7 million pre-25 percent design for a rebuilt Swamp Road Bridge, closed since 2021 flooding. Acting Chairman James Loynd led a joint meeting with the Finance Committee and Capital Planning Committee, where Town Administrator Bryan Smith detailed fiscal 2027 budget adjustments narrowing a projected $557,690 deficit to a roughly $25,000 to $27,000 positive balance, partly by tapping about $400,000 in interest from the town's OPEB trust fund. Finance Committee Chair Debra Smith pushed the School Department to trim $11,000 from its elementary budget, saying "I do feel year after year we sit here and we issue this guidance." The board also approved a $31,856.40 five-year taser contract with Axon Enterprises, appointed William Cardaropoli as van driver at $18.28 an hour, and OK'd a May 4 ballot question on making the treasurer's position appointed rather than elected.
