Select Board votes to appoint Turner as treasurer
Select Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Erving Select Board appoints Michelle Turner town treasurer, backs $200,000 for a school roof. The board voted to hire Turner, already the town's elected tax collector, as treasurer at $41.98 an hour for an average 32-hour week, pending a background check and one-year probationary period, with the vote passing on a majority rather than unanimously. The Capital Planning Committee separately recommended raising special town meeting funding for the Erving Elementary School roof from $150,000 to $200,000, with MSBA project managers and legal counsel confirming the change meets program requirements.
A resident told the board "I'm not going to be able to help you" if her brain-damaged dog ever faced a nuisance hearing, pushing members to add a professional-evaluation requirement to a draft animal control bylaw. The board also approved $985,189.40 in accounts payable, including payment for a new fire truck, plus $240,722.15 in payroll and $39,663.50 in payroll benefits warrants.
