Erving Public Works Feasibility Committee Begins DPW Building Design Process With Engineers

ERVING — February 23, 2021 — Erving's Public Works Feasibility Committee launched its formal planning process for a new standalone DPW facility at the town's existing highway and wastewater site. The committee, which includes Highway Superintendent Glenn McCrory, Water/Wastewater Superintendent Peter Sanders, and Capital Planning member Peter Mallett, met via video conference with Weston and Sampson consultants John and Dan Tenney, who outlined a roughly 12-week, two-phase process to produce schematic designs and cost estimates for a future town meeting appropriation. The existing facility — a wastewater plant built in 1974 and a highway garage added in the early 1980s — has been flagged by OSHA for office use near electrical panels, and much of the highway equipment remains stored outdoors. The town's assistant town planner pushed for solar panels as "almost non-negotiable" and asked consultants to rough in conduit for eventual EV fleet charging. A site visit was tentatively set for Wednesday, March 3, at 10 a.m.
