Erving Launches Design Programming for New Highway Dry Storage Facility

ERVING — March 31, 2021 — Erving's Public Works Feasibility Committee held its first formal programming session for a proposed new dry storage building at the town's highway and wastewater facility. John Cuomo, project manager with consulting firm Weston & Sampson, led the March 31 video conference alongside lead architect Dan Tanney and architect Megan Fitzmars, with Highway Superintendent Glenn McGrory and Water and Wastewater Superintendent Peter Sanders representing the town's operational staff. Capital Planning Committee member Peter Mallett flagged growing cost concerns, noting the project was originally floated at roughly half a million dollars but now encompasses sprinkler systems, separate men's and women's locker and shower facilities, office and reception space, custodial supply storage, and a pipe rack — well beyond its original dry-storage-only conception. Tanney said construction material prices, particularly lumber up roughly 80 percent year over year, remain volatile and unpredictable. The committee scheduled a follow-up session for April 21, with Weston & Sampson delivering preliminary space-needs assessments and room data sheets the preceding Friday.
