Conservation Commission Schedules April Site Visit for Poplar Mountain Parking Decision

ERVING — March 22, 2021 — Erving Conservation Commission votes to hold April 6 site visit to settle Poplar Mountain parking. The commission unanimously chose April 6 at 5:30 p.m. for an on-site deliberation at the Poplar Mountain Conservation Area, focusing on a location on the north side of Old State Road — designated as Option 2 — after rejecting an Eversource gravel lot as a primary choice due to sight-line concerns at a nearby curve. Commissioner Rob Bruhl said he was "seriously worried about somebody coming out of that corner on that curve and getting slobbered." Abutters Todd and Lisa Katz, who recently purchased the former Guinness property at 143 Old State Road, offered to donate land if needed to improve trail access and pledged to submit a written parking proposal before the meeting. The commission also gave conditional unanimous approval to an Order of Conditions for a Wheelock Street project, tied to a permitting plan set dated February 5, 2021, allowing the applicant to close out a pending grant.
