Conservation Commission Clears 33 North Street Drainage Project, Eyes Poplar Mountain Survey

ERVING — September 7, 2021 — Erving Conservation Commission unanimously approved a drainage project at 33 North Street and authorized two Poplar Mountain initiatives at its September 7 meeting. The board issued a Negative Determination of Applicability for property owner Megan Edson, clearing her to install a dry well roughly 40 feet from her building without a full Notice of Intent, subject to the condition that all drainage flow into the dry well rather than toward the river. The commission also voted to hold a volunteer brush-clearing work party this fall at the town's Poplar Mountain property, where a gravel parking area is at least a year from construction, and authorized Town Planner Mariah to submit a state grant application — partly funded by the Audubon Society — for a professional forest and bird-population survey of the site. Members also heard a staff briefing on a private landowner's forest cutting plan at Flag Hill, a roughly 32-acre property that had been approved through DCR without notifying the commission; if formally submitted, the board would face a 10-business-day window to raise any wetlands objections.
