Erving Select Board awards $77,810 road contract, approves asbestos removal work
ERVING — February 26, 2024 — Erving Select Board awards $77,810 road contract and approves asbestos removal at three town sites. The board voted unanimously Monday to award the Bridge Street wall replacement and Maple Avenue roadway improvement project to A. Martin's and Sons Construction of Ludlow after an eight-bid process reviewed by Weston and Sampson engineers; the amount came in under available appropriations that include a $52,000 MassDOT grant and Chapter 90 funds. The board also awarded a $9,600.65 asbestos pipe removal contract to Strategic Environmental Services of Sutton for the Wastewater Department and a $1,500 scoping engagement with Atlas Environmental of West Springfield for Fire Station 2 and the Old Firehouse Museum. In a joint session with the Finance Committee and Capital Planning Committee, the library reported patron visits doubled year-over-year to 8,000 and proposed a $16,353 wage increase including a request to expand Youth Services Librarian hours from 28 to 35 per week. The board also voted to add parcel 40-35 — an acre-and-a-half lot near the former IP Mill with potential rail access — to the mill's RFP and extend the submission deadline to April 4, 2024.
